Based on the global 'pick it up' movement, GreenRE carried out our annual CSR/Team Building Day out. With a big dose of determination and sense of adventure, we conquered the 2km trek to Sg Lepoh waterfalls which involved steep inclines and engaging with the local leeches and mosquitoes. We collected over 5 gunny sacks of trash along the trek back to base. It was disheartening to see food trash and camping material left behind by campers and trekkers. We hope that the no plastic movement increases community awareness about disposing plastic and other wastes. GreenRE aims to ensure we eliminate the use of single use plastic at our events.
GreenRE in conjunction with Friends Of Bukit Gasing (FOBG) conducted a tree planting session at Bukit Gasing on Saturday, the 2nd of December 2017.
A total of 30 native hardwood tree saplings were planted along a widely used hiking trail in Bukit Gasing.
A healthy forest typically stores carbon at a greater rate than it releases through decay and respiration. Trees can convert carbon dioxide (CO2) into sugar, cellulose and other carbon-containing carbohydrates that they use for food and growth. Hence, trees are able to lock up large amounts of carbon in their wood, and continue to add carbon as they grow.
Saving trees and planting additional trees are also vital for water resource management. Preservation of trees and reducing intrusion on the natural environment leads to better communities and a healthier environment.
