Carbon Assessment
Carbon Assessment
During the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP 15) Copenhagen in 2009, the Government of Malaysia committed to a voluntary reduction of up to 40% of carbon dioxide emissions intensity per unit of GDP by the year 2020 compared to emission levels in 2005.
Carbon assessment is used to determine the total carbon footprint (expressed as carbon dioxide equivalent) for a particular development project. The carbon footprint is derived from the associate energy used during the construction and operational phase of a development project.
Carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) is a term for describing different greenhouse gases in a common unit. For any quantity and type of greenhouse gas, CO2e signifies the amount of CO2 which would have the equivalent global warming impact. It is commonly expressed as tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents (t CO2e). Typical greenhouse gases include Carbon Dioxide, Methane (CH4),Chlorofluorocarbons(CFC) and Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).
