The inspiration for this design approach stems from the
traditional Malacca house courtyards, renowned for their
well-designed lighting and air circulation systems. By
applying the same concept to Wisma REHDA, the stack
effect comes into play. Warm air within the building rises
and escapes through the roof, creating a vacuum that
allows cool air to rush in and replace it. This continuous air
exchange mechanism helps maintain a cool atmosphere
within the atrium.
Green landscape and water features
The building is a valuable example of how sustainable
and innovative design can be aesthetically pleasing and
ecologically beneficial. Fusing efficiency, ecology and
excellence, Wisma REHDA delivers on eco-friendly, nature-
inspired office space, with an abundance of greenery, plants
and trees surrounding the development, offering a sense of
serenity for the staff and visitors alike. Water features such as
the fishpond is located at the entrance of the building.
Sustainable in construction
In order to minimise the carbon footprint during construction,
the project team sought materials with low embodied
carbon index, doing away with carbon-intensive clay bricks.
Materials used included fair-face block walls and off-form
concrete, eliminating the need for additional cement plaster
rendering and paint finish. The project team also introduced
raw materials such as concrete ventilation blocks and
timber screening throughout the building, carefully selected
for functionality and minimising environmental impact.
Throughout the project, the team considered recycling
material from the existing building such as roofing and roof
trusses, which were donated to a local school.
