57 SUSTAINABLE REAL ESTATE
As a group, Sunway firmly aligns with the United
Nation’s (UN) 17 Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs) in developing eco-friendly buildings and
sustainable environments. Therefore, when it came
to conceptualising the new home for Sunway
International School (SIS) Sunway City KL campus,
going green was the obvious path.
Aware of its unique societal responsibility and
role model function as an educational institution,
Sunway Education Group (SEG) chose to go
beyond the ordinary in the industry, to develop and
implement sustainability measures across the new
campus of its international school in USJ 1. From its
choice of building design to selection of materials,
SEG envisioned a sustainable school environment,
social spaces, processes and operations.
Campus with a conscience
As the nation’s first GreenRE Platinum certified
education institution, SIS adapts low-carbon
initiatives and innovative environmental responses.
The 8-acre campus is a model integrated design
that brings together the different components
of architecture, such as the building envelope,
window placement and glazing, and mechanical
systems to showcase distinguished sustainable
features. Created to be environmentally
responsible, SIS operates on reduced energy load,
water use, waste production and base-building
energy consumption.
