Key principles of water saving
Adding to its eco-credentials, the water fittings at the Child
Care Centre are low flow rate with “Excellent” ratings under
the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS).
Rainwater harvesting system with 750L tank size used for
landscape irrigation promotes water conservation efforts.
Green from the ground up
Through a careful choice of materials and eco-friendly
building components, the building’s carbon footprints are
reduced. Mitigating carbon footprint from cement use, 30%
of the ordinary portland cement (OPC) used in this project
was replaced with pulverised fly ash (PFA) which is a post-
industrial waste from coal production, lowering the carbon
index. The CUI for the project is registered at 0.133 m /m ,

lower than 0.35 m /m baseline set by GreenRE. Additional

eco-credentials are earned from the use of sustainable
products such as exterior paint, gypsum board, water proofing
membrane and wall panels. To improve indoor air quality, low
volatile organic compound (VOC) paint is applied keeping in
mind the children’s health and well-being.
